Wedding Gown Planning Tips
By Juliannah’s Dress & Bridal
As a young girl, you dreamed of a special day – the day when your prince charming would propose. That day has finally arrived! The first thing that comes to mind is the wedding dress. There's nothing worse than finding the perfect dress, only to be told it can't be ordered in time for the wedding.
When the time comes to choose your wedding dress, listen to the experts. The dress that gets your least attention could be the one that flatters you the most.
-
Do not shop with the entire family. Choose one or two people who know your style to assist you in your choice. Sometimes, with too many opinions you can become confused on what you want. Remember, this is your wedding day. You’re buying a wedding gown for yourself. Please don’t try to satisfy others.
-
You are not only buying a gown, but an association of trust. We will deliver everything as promised and in the time required.
-
Your dress should be ordered 6 to 12 months before the wedding date. Yes, really. It can take 3 to 4 months for a designer gown to arrive. Usually two fittings are required with our seamstress. Once your gown is ordered, you can put this portion of your plans to rest! Now for your bridesmaids.
-
You can get bridesmaids dresses off the rack, but some collections take 3 to 4 months or more to order. Choose your colour theme and plan ahead to avoid disappointments. Again you need to allow time for fittings and alterations.
-
Don't leave it too late to order accessories like shoes, tiara, veil, lingerie and jewellery. If you are going to have appointments with your hairstylist and make up artist, you will then need to take your tiara and veil with you.
-
At your wedding gown fittings it is imperative to have the shoes and lingerie that you will be wearing on your very special day. Very important!
-
First fitting. Wedding dress and bridesmaids. These appointments should be booked when the dresses arrive in the store. It's not essential to have the fittings together, in fact it can be quicker and easier if they are done separately.
-
Second fitting. Usually there are no further alterations after the second fitting. However, at times there are minor adjustments to be made. A bride’s most important day can sometimes cause her weight and figure to fluctuate.
-
Pick Up. Remember to bring a white or light coloured queen size bed sheet when you pick-up your wedding gown. The bridal shop has perfectly steamed your gown ready to wear. They will envelope your gown in the bed sheet so you can delicately bring it home in the back seat of your car. Once at home, you can uncover your gown to allow it to hang without restriction. If an additional crinoline is necessary to be worn with your gown, it will go home with you at this time along with a complimentary garter.
Do remember, "something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue"
